Sharing my passions, as I manipulated a variety of materials. Some people have called it art. It has also been a form of worship, and almost always has been the greatest fun.

Russell Cushman: Sculptor and Muralist

"Kingdom of the Wind"

These were life-sized, plywood horses placed on a private Washington County property... then rejected and transplanted to a private Grimes County property... they can be seen on Hwy 90 between Navasota and Anderson.

The First Taco Stand Memorial... at Hi-Ho store and cafe in Navasota, Texas.

The owner/manager of the "taco-tessen" inside Hi-Ho explained to me that the first tacos were actually made by Hispanic cooks for the trail drivers... "vaqueros."  They could be handed to a man on horseback, and he could eat while he drove the cows... Like every Texas cowboy tradition, it probably began in Old Mexico... or south Texas, and was a hybrid of cultures, where necessity was the mother of invention.

An album cover for Tubie & the Touchtones.  This  was purely digital art... all done on the computer.

"Alpha and Omega,"a mural for the Riverside Nature Center in Kerrville. The concept was a single spot where people could learn the amazing cycle of the water we use every day, and how best to conserve it. It was to be accompanied with an impressive water feature, supplied by two huge water tanks, hidden by the mural.

Blues Alley, in Navasota, Texas, (the "Blues Capital of Texas,") was a project conceived to attract music and especially blues enthusiasts to Navasota's flagship store, also called Blues Alley. It memorializes Mance Lipscomb, Blind Willie Johnson, Jerry Jericho, Big Lu, Texas Alexander, Lightnin' Hopkins, Johnny Bush, Nat Dove and several other famous musicians from the area. The store was later remodeled and is now the Classic Rock Coffee Company.

Doing justice to "Pancho" Hamer.

A great honor- posing with my statue of Frank Hamer with Texas Ranger (Retired) and former Navasota Police Chief, Bob Connell, (on left) and Grimes Country Sheriff Don Sowell, and Navasota Mayor Bert Miller.

The Frank Hamer bronze monument at Navasota City Hall was dedicated in March of  2013.

The "Brazos Buffalo" series. These were privately commissioned by art collectors...

"Brazos Crossing"

"King of Texas"
(Not the Brazos Valley!)

And in 2012:  This ten-foot, welded steel, outdoor sculpture was for the Music Dept. at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.

Two murals in the foyer of the visitor's center at Blue Bell Creamery, Brenham, Texas...

I am very proud to add Blue Bell to my list of clients who have commissioned murals.

One mural greets visitors as they enter the building which houses the Country Store and the Ice Cream Parlor, another in the same room is a mural over the new Texas High School Baseball Coaches Museum.

This is the first time I have had the pleasure of painting murals about things I have had close personal experience with... Texas wildflowers, baseball, dairy cows, and my favorite ice cream. You might say that when I go to Heaven.... my concept of it would look something like this!

Finally, you can go someplace in Texas and see her two most beautiful wildflowers, no matter what time of the year it is!

Texas "bluebells", AKA purple gentian, which bloom in mid-summer, were the inspiration for the name of the popular Brenham-made Ice Cream.

I have completed over ten thousand square feet of murals in Texas schools, restaurants and museums. Numerous murals and wildlife sculptures have been done in Bryan and College Station schools. I have done several large canvas works for various hospitals in Houston, Midland and Round Rock, Texas.

International award winning welded steel sculpture "Brazos Freedom" at Navasota, Texas

Life sized Texas longhorn sculpture in front of Stelzig's store in Terminal D, Bush Houston Intercontinental Airport.

140 feet of murals at Star of the Republic Museum, Washington on the Brazos, Texas.

Battle of Galveston diorama at Houston Baptist University, Houston, Texas

Bronze monument to mothers, called "Memoire" at Heritage Park, Bryan, Texas.
